Magic Trivia for February:

Here is some trivia about magic words or sayings.   Besides the most famous, Abracadabra, Alakazaam, and Hocus-Pocus, here are some other words or sayings you may hear:  Sim Sala Bim from the Great Dante, Hocus Pocus Fishbones Chockus from Ali Bongo, Doodee Doodee Doodee from Wizzo the Clown featured on the Bozo Show on WGN-TV in Chicago, Happis Crappis from Al Flosso, Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwiches from the Sesame Street TV Show and Peaches & Cream from Dr. Jack and Randy.

Now what do these words or sayings mean?   The word Abracadabra comes from the Hebrew expression I create as I speak.  The expression Hocus-Pocus is a corruption of the Latin prayer Hoc ist corpus (literally meaning this is my body) and are used at the consecration during the Roman Catholic mass.  Since Hocus-Pocus originated as a derogatory term, poking fun at this transformation, many Catholic magicians avoid the use of the word because of its original meaning.  The other words or sayings have no meaning; just fun sayings.
